FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022
For the first time in Football World Cup history photographers were allowed to shoot from the stadium roofs suspended above the field.
I was part of the Associated Press photo team and one of the group of photographers who worked from the top.
Working at height requires certification, so I completed a professional high-altitude work course to be cleared to go up.
If to select one main photo from that World Cup, I’ll show you this one as a flat painting. France’s goalkeeper Hugo Lloris saves a shoot by England’s Harry Kane during the quarterfinal match.

A World Cup is relentless. You shoot a match every day and every day brings its own emotions, decisive moments and the atmosphere that surrounds the game. Enjoy the photographs.
And this photo of Olivier Giroud was chosen as a cover for the l’Equipe
The final
AP is a big team, and I knew I’d be shooting many more finals from the pitch. So I gave up my place at the stadium for the final match and went looking for a different story: how local people were watching the game on TV.
I got lucky again. I found them with the stadium itself in the background.
